For many of us, the possibility of change inspires and galvanizes. For others, the perceived absence of change elicits apathy, cynicism, and even despair. But what exactly is change? What is this concept that both inspires and haunts us?
A change agent is anyone who takes action to foster positive transformation in themselves and the world, regardless of their employment status, education, social authority, visibility, age, or role.
That dread is the tell-tale sign that this work is profound and important for me. It activates some unrealized potentials in me.
We often use “shameless” to describe those they aren’t bound by rules of decency or conscience. I think this gets it exactly wrong.
We are constantly developing new capacities, values, and ideas. Yet we also circle around through the same themes and challenges again and again.
When the complex, wicked challenges around us feel too big and completely out of our control, we can always zoom in to focus on what is in our control.
We can always broaden our perspective, either temporally or spatially, and see things differently.
It’s important to remember that while we have endured many catastrophes, they have never quite destroyed us in the way we most feared.
