May 19, 2022 C.E.As part of United Airlines’ pledge to become carbon neutral by 2050, they have now bought 52.5 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) that will go towards fueling every United airplane that leaves from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport for the next three years. United is also pushing towards working with other emerging green technologies such as hydrogen-electric fuel and carbon sequestration.
With over two percent of total human-caused carbon dioxide emissions coming from the aviation industry, European refineries are amping up their sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. As a result, more airlines around the world that companies are buying more of this fuel, including United Airlines.
With this not-so-small change in how we fuel our planes, there will only be more growth towards lowering carbon emissions from airplanes and helping fight against climate change. Perhaps other airlines will quickly follow suit.
