About Kiva

Kiva is an international nonprofit founded in the U.S. with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive. Kiva uses crowdfunded loans to unlock capital for the underserved and address the underlying barriers to financial access around the world. Through Kiva, students can pay for tuition, women can start businesses, farmers are able to invest in equipment and families can afford needed emergency care.

Kiva believes that lending alongside thousands of others is one of the most powerful and sustainable ways to create economic and social good. Kiva loans can be made to a member of one’s community, or a stranger halfway around the world, allowing impactful connections and relationships to be made.

2.1 million lenders have loaned over 1.8 billion dollars through Kiva, helping over 4 million borrowers, across seventy-nine countries. With a repayment rate of 96.4%, lending on Kiva creates a partnership of mutual dignity and makes it easy to touch more lives with the same dollar.
