Two weeks ago, I talked about purpose statements. Here’s what I have for myself right now:
I kindle possibility by revealing growth, beauty, and kindness.
“Reveal” is what holds a lot of the power for me. There is both a humility and a wonder to it. The world is already beautiful. All I have to do is help people see that. Kindling is one manifestation of this purpose: I help people pierce through the cynicism, outrage, despair, and apathy by highlighting social progress from around the world.
But the purpose statement goes beyond that. Through it, I also strive to reveal myself. I reveal the beauty and kindness in me, so that others can better see it in themselves and create new possibility for their lives and their communities. In that way, my purpose calls me to vulnerability and connection.
